  • On February 19, 1942, U.S. President Roosevelt signed an executive order giving the military the authority to relocate and intern Japanese-Americans.
  • Ansel Easton Adams (February 20, 1902 – April 22, 1984) was an American photographer and environmentalist best known for his black-and-white landscape photographs of Yosemite National Park.
  • On February 21, 1965, former Black Muslim leader Malcolm X was shot and killed by assassins identified as Black Muslims as he was about to address a rally in New York City; he was 39.
  • George Washington (February 22, 1732-December 14, 1799) was one of the Founding Fathers of the United States, serving as the commander-in-chief of the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. He also presided over the convention that drafted the Constitution.

Battle of the books for this year starts Monday, February 25th. The battle event is on April 12th during periods 2-4. All team registrations are due by next Wednesday February 27th. You can pick up registration forms in the library or possibly your English teacher's classroom. Finally, if you did not see the classroom presentation, there is a Prezi showing all the titles and a quick summary of the books. Please come by the library if you have any questions.

Academic Talent Search (ATS) offers exciting summer courses at Sac State like All the World's a Stage, Escape Room Math, Video Game Development, Messy Science, and many others. To join these interactive and hands on classes, you need to take the ATS Qualifying Exam, which will be offered here at Holmes on Thursday, March 7th after school. Tickets are now available for A Night at Coconut Grove, an fun filled evening of jazz music, dinner, and silent auction, Saturday March 2 at Emerson Junior High.  The Davis Senior High School and junior high jazz ensembles will be performing during the evening.  This fundraiser, organized by the DHS Band Boosters, supports all the DHS band programs.  Tickets range from $20 for students to $50 for adults, and can be purchased through the DHS Band Boosters website: groups.dcn.org/dhsbandboosters

Spring Sport Paperwork Deadline

 

The spring sport paperwork deadline for:

 

Soccer is Friday, February 15th

 

Track is Friday, Friday, April 12th

 

Please remember that even if you do your paperwork online, your sport paperwork is not complete UNTIL you turn in the paper copy of your current physical signed by a physician.

 

If you have been cleared to play a sport during the fall or winter, you are all set for the spring and do not need to turn in anything else.

Looking for a quiet, dim lit room to be in during lunch?  Ms. Amsler hosts the space to sit and breath and do gentle stretching on yoga mats that are provided every Thursday at lunch.  Room D-30.  No experience or commitment required.  Just a place to relax.  The first half of lunch is for guided meditation, eat quietly and peacefully the 2nd half.
