Screen Addictions: Navigating Family Challenges
December 11, 2024
6:00-7:30pm
For many children and teens, the use of screens mimics patterns of drug addiction, making it difficult for them to be without their devices close at hand. When parents attempt to limit screen use, they may encounter addictive behavior that includes lying, stealing, pleading, threatening and erupting in anger. This virtual PEP Talk will discuss the growing prevalence of screen addictions and strategies parents can use to address these issues and live more harmoniously. Presented by Lawrence Shweky, EMERGE Center.
We will also learn more about the new legislation to limit the use of smartphones during school hours (Assembly Bill 3216, also known as the Phone-Free School Act). Director of Student Support Services Cara Messmore will share information and discuss implications for DJUSD students.
